Bond University organises flood trauma counselling session for free
Date : 17 March 2022
Location : Australia
Bond university’s school of psychology is organing mental health counselling for those people who are directly affected by the floods in Queensland and New South Wales.
The registered psychologists who will be completing their master's degree in Clinical Psychology will conduct the telehealth session.
The Bond University Psychology Clinic, according to Associate Professor Peta Stapleton, leapt into action in response to calls for emergency psychological treatment, notably in Northern NSW. Long Covid lockdowns and previous flood experiences, she believes, may have exacerbated flood stress.
Dr. Stapleton explained, "We had the 2017 floods and now this in close succession." "People may have been able to pick themselves up before, but now they must do it all over again, with Covid in the mix."
"They may be asking how likely it is that it will happen again?" They react emotionally to a certain amount of weariness. They've just completely lost their ability to bounce back." The psychologists, according to Dr Stapleton, will be looking for signs of hopelessness or powerlessness.
